[China coating information] it is reported that on January 17, the University of Michigan and the Air Force Research Laboratory jointly developed a new nano coating material, of which more than 95% is air, which can repel hundreds of liquids

this kind of liquid repelled by the coating is called "non Newtonian fluid", including shampoo, custard, blood, paint coating, clay, printing ink, etc. the viscosity of this kind of liquid depends on the force they are subjected to. However, the viscosity of Newtonian fluids, such as water, has nothing to do with their own forces

the surface of yarn or fabric coated with this material can form an elastic force against liquid. The clothes made of this kind of cloth are not only super anti pollution and protect the wearer from chemicals, but also may develop advanced waterproof coatings for ships, which greatly reduces the development of biomaterials and 3D printing technology, bringing a brighter prospect to the automotive industry and reducing the drag of water on ships. The maximum inlet and outlet pressure difference can reach 30MPa as published in the recently published journal of the American Chemical Society

researchers call this nano coating "super holophobic liquid level", which is a mixture of elastic plastic particles called "polydimethylsiloxane", which can form repulsive force on liquid (4) belts and tensors from the cubic nanometer scale. The researchers pointed out that the chemical composition of this material is important, but more important is its texture. No matter what material surface it is used on, it can be tightly wrapped on the pore like structure. Therefore, in these pores, the elongation at break of General PE is 90% ~ 950% (among which the elongation of linear low-density polyethylene LLDPE is higher), forming a more fine. This structure also means that 95-99% of the coating forms air pockets, so any liquid contacting the coating can hardly touch its solid surface. Since the liquid can only contact the filaments on the surface of the fabric coating, the intermolecular force is greatly reduced

"when two materials are close enough to each other, they will be affected by the positive or negative charges carried by each other. In case of solid-liquid contact, the liquid will enter the solid and form diffusion. This nano coating greatly reduces the interaction between the solid surface and the droplets." Anise tutia, the corresponding author of the paper and an associate professor of materials science and engineering at the University of Michigan, said, "almost any liquid dropping on it will immediately pop up without forming infiltration. At present, there are other similar liquid proof materials, but some liquids with low surface tension, such as oil, alcohol, organic acids, organic bases and a variety of solvents, will adhere to it and disperse in all directions. This effect is not what we want."

researchers have tested more than 100 liquids, and only two chlorofluorocarbons used in refrigerators and air conditioners can penetrate the coating. In the laboratory, they demonstrated that the coating can repel coffee, soy sauce, vegetable oil, hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid, and avoid clothing pollution and skin burns. Tudia said that it can also repel gasoline and various alcohols. "So far, no one has demonstrated the elasticity of non-Newtonian fluids with low surface tension."
